Notes from the Director!

Welcome!!!

If you are reading this, you are already a part of the choir or you are thinking about becoming a part of this wonderful group.  Either way, this page has information that I want you to know.  Some of it you will receive in written form, but some of it will change.  So if you are already a member of the choir, please make a point to check in often.  Some of this information may remain the same for most, if not all, of the semester.  If I add anything new, I will highlight that information in bold print.

All singers need to meet ON THE STAGE a little before 6 p.m.  We will close the doors to the audience until 6:30 p.m. so that we can do a short on-stage rehearsal and sound check from 6:00 to 6:30.

        Psalm of Hope
        Windy Nights
        Annabel Lee
        Alterations
        When I Was A Lad
        Three Little Maids

Your music should be in a black folder.  We may or may not have a hole punch there this evening.

We will NOT leave the stage for an "intermission."  However, we will close the curtains following Neighbor's Chorus to distribute the instruments for Jabberwocky.

The dress for our concert will be as follows:

Men:  black dress slacks, white long-sleeve button-up shirt, black socks, black shoes.  We may do all bow ties.  I have about 15 in my possession, so don't go buy one.

Ladies: dress or skirt/blouse or dress slacks/blouse, black or black/white, black shoes.

REMINDER:  NO PERFUMES OR SCENTED HAIRSPRAYS.  We have some that are allergic and/or highly sensitive to these products.

SPECIAL INVITATION.  My special needs kids from Russellville High School will be giving a performance on Tuesday, May 6, at 9:15 a.m. at Wildflower Retirement Center.  These kids love an audience.  I know they will at least be singing Edelweiss from The Sound of Music and Gary, Indiana from The Music Man.  They will also be playing a couple of songs on handbells.  Please come if you can.

ANOTHER SPECIAL INVITATION.  The students of Arkansas Center for Music Education will be presenting their spring concert entitled Songs from the Stage and Screen:  Broadway, Opera, & Movies on Thursday, May 15, at 7:00 p.m. in Witherspoon Auditorium.  Our own Richie Loveland will be part of that in the band, as well as helping our on the Anvil Chorus.  Our new tenor, Jacob Irwin, will also be playing trumpet.

The students are comprised of home schoolers and one private school where I teach, New Life Academy.  They all range in age from K4 through high school.

This is free and open to the public.

NEED MUSICIANS.  I am also looking for volunteer musicians to help with a concert band for the Russellville Adult Education Center graduation ceremony on Saturday, May 17, at 7:00 p.m. at Gardner auditorium.  I currently need flutes, clarinets, saxophones, a couple of trumpets, lots of low brass, and maybe a percussionist or two.  There will be two rehearsals: the first will be Monday, May 12, at 7 p.m. in the band room at Tech in Witherspoon building; and the other will be Friday, May 16, at 6:00 p.m. at Gardner with the graduates.  I have been putting a band together for this for about 8 or 9 years as a community service.  If you know of anyone who who plays an instrument and might be willing to participate in this (even if they can't make all the rehearsals), please have them contact me at 479-264-9107 or shirley.faulkner@makinmusic.net.

SUMMER CHOIR.  As much as I hate to, we will NOT be doing summer choir this year.  Brian has quite a few in-service workshops scheduled across the state.  Several are still scheduling.  Him being our summer accompanist and me traveling with him for sales would make it difficult to do justice.  So we will take off this summer and plan to bring it back in Summer '09.  I WILL MISS YOU ALL SO MUCH!!

Our first rehearsal for fall 2008 will be Monday, August 18, at 7 p.m.  I will post the music selections for the semester here on the website once I have them pinned down.

Be sure to check out the calendar page for other rehearsal information
and concert information.

See you all tonight at 6:00!!!!
